Success Means Overcoming Obstacles

success is about overcoming obstaclesHere’s a quiz for you.  What do folk artists, Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell, have in common with rock stars Neil Young and Ian Dury, as well as jazz saxophonist, David Sanborn, and classical virtuoso Itzhak Perlman?

Believe it or not, they all were the victims of polio when they were growing up.  If you’re under 30, you may not even know about this disease, but until it was eradicated here in the U S, it was a very debilitating and crippling disease.  Through the efforts of Rotary Clubs worldwide, polio has almost been eliminated in even third world countries.  And India just celebrated its first full year of no new polio cases.

I, myself, have been a member of our Rotary Club since 1975, and a musician as well, so when I came across this article in The Rotarian magazine, it certainly grabbed my interest.  The article detailed how in each case, each of these artists in their own right, battled against the odds and obstacles to attain success in the world of music.  There was talent inside, screaming to get out, and nothing, not even a dreaded disease, was going to stop it from expressing itself.

It brought to mind that as online entrepreneurs, we too, have to have the desire, the fortitude, the stick to-it, the commitment to overcome whatever obstacles stand in the way of our success.

It’s easy when things don’t go our way, to rationalize, or make excuses.  But rationalization and excuses don’t lead to success.

Achieving your business goals can lead to achieving your life’s goals.  No one said that it would be easy, or that there wouldn’t be some obstacles standing in your way.  What they do say, is that overcoming the obstacles will be worth the effort. It matters not how many times you fall. What matters most is the way you get back up!

There’s music to be made out there. Don’t miss your chance to play your song!

Success awaits.

Leptin’s Role in Weight Loss

Lose the Fat

Whether you realize it or not, your head, and specifically your brain, has more to do with your weight loss success than your stomach does.  And we’re not just talking about “will power”.

The brain is the place where your satiety center resides.  And one of the control factors is a hormone called leptin.  The body is a remarkable machine, and if left to it’s own devices, will work hard to maintain a healthy weight.

Leptin, which is released from stored fat, tells the brain that,  as far as eating is concerned, you’re satisfied.  But, because of diets high in fat and simple sugars, etc, the delicate balance that allows leptin to communicate with the satiety center in the brain is upset, and what happens is, the shut off hunger signal is not received, and so we keep on eating, (or should I say over-eating).  This is known as leptin resistance.

To keep the leptin path clear and communicating normally when you’re trying to lose weight, here are a few suggestions

* drink plenty of water

* increase your exercise

* increase your fiber intake

* avoid food choices that cause your insulin levels to remain elevated. (Higher levels of insulin in the bloodstream interfere with leptin’s message to the brain).

5 Steps to Optimal Health

Are you looking to become healthier and have a better quality of life?    Well here are 5 simple steps that you can take to begin the journey to optimal health.

1.  Drink enough water.

How much is enough?  That actually varies, but considering your body is over 55% water, you should be drinking between 3 and 4 quarts per day, depending on whether you’re a woman or a man.  Don’t wait til you’re thirsty.  That indicator is a “little bit late to the party” if you get my drift.

2.   Exercise

The dreaded “E” word, right?  Well we’re not talking about running a marathon here, just an increase in your daily activity.  Requiring no equipment,  and something that can be accomplished in small time increments, increasing your walking is a great way to start.

3.   Cleanse

Oh boy, there’s one nobody wants to discuss in polite society.     But if you realized how much disease, lack of energy, and weight problems are caused by not properly cleansing your colon, you’d be amazed.

4.   Nourish

Eating is not necessarily nourishing.  You have to give your body the right nutrients to keep it working at peak efficiency.  We’re talking good nutrition here, but you also nourish your body through sleep, rest and relaxation.

5.   Target

We’re all different, and therefore have different health concerns.  What matters is that we understand that we need to take responsibility for our health and quality of life.  By providing nutritional support to target those areas,  we have a better chance at prevention when it comes to future problems.

So there you are, 5 simple steps that you can start with to improve your health and quality of life.
